Social, behavioral, and economic sciences are fo cused on understanding human activity at every level – from the mind and brain, to an individual’s behavior, to the actions of groups and organizations. The quest for a deeper understanding of humans is key to managing society’s most critical challenges, including providing high quality education, developing better health care programs, fighting terrorism, preventing crime, preparing and responding to natural disasters, and much more. This briefing highlighted the report Social, Behavioral and Economic Research in the Federal Context and federally-funded research in the social and behavioral sciences that addresses these challenges.
